Year 2 week 17

23rd – 29th April 2017

Last Sunday at church the speaker spoke about making small choices. He went on to say that small choices can lead to big results – you just need to take that first step. 

This journey I have been going down over the last 16 months is the result of many small choices. When I made them I could never have imagined where it would take me. 

I find, everyone at sometime in there life find themselves standing on a road with 2 choices. One saying take the challenge, try something new, it will take you to places you couldn’t even imagine. The other one is saying don’t do it, stick to what you know, stay in your comfort zone, there will be no surprises then.  

I have been on that latter road all my life always chosing to go left and stay in my comfort zone. My comfort zone was always a life full of wrong choices. Over the last 16 months I have been choosing to go right – going all out for the challenge. 

I have really enjoyed taking the challenge because without it I would never have changed for the better. 

This latest challenge I am facing is my toughest one yet. I have never been athletic at all, so signing up to do a half marathon is definitely out of my comfort zone. 

Stepping into something new can be really scary sometimes, but it doesn’t mean it’s not a good thing to do. 

Before I signed up I was all raring to go ahead and do it. I was totally up for the challenge. After I signed up I went “Oh no, what have I done?” I think it was because I knew I had to work hard to get it. 

It has been about 6 weeks now since I signed up and the training has been going ok. There are some days that I wonder why  am l doing it !!. I have been getting up early to train, running in the rain, running with a cold, running with a knee injury, running with blisters, I have been so tired that I couldn’t do much for the rest of the day, I have ached in places I didn’t even know existed. Sometimes I wonder can I even do this at all. 

Then there are other times when I have just beaten my personal best, or I feel so good afterwards that I could do more. This week after doing my first ever 8 mile run I got slightly overwhelmed that I actually did it, I think a few tears even filled my eyes. By choosing to go right and taking the challenge, the things I have achieved, for me, have been huge. 

It shows that those small choices you make are important – just make sure you go right every once in a while and not be afraid to take the challenge.
