So I finally had my cataract operation this week. I had one eye done and the other will be done in a couple of weeks.

I am seeing things so much clearer and brighter now. In fact it’s so bright that I am having to wear sunglasses in the house.

I knew that I was having problems with my eyesight but I didn’t actually think it had got THAT bad!!!

When I came out the hospital I had a patch over my left eye (the one that was operated on). I had to keep it on for 24 hours. Once it came off and I could see things so much better there was such a contrast with my eyes now that I feel like I have this permanent patch over my right. It’s a very weird feeling. I feel like a pirate.

I am spending my time comparing the difference between my 2 eyes. The difference is amazing – everything is so cloudy out my right eye but very clear and bright out my left.

In someways it has freaked me out a little because I thought I was seeing things one way but in reality it’s been different. My face was the first thing I saw and I could see every spot and blemish. I asked Matt if I always looked like that his response was ‘yes most of the time!’

The thing that has freaked me out the most though is my art. What I thought I was drawing is totally different to what you have been seeing. My attention to detail had totally gone. I have been leaving bold marks that I wouldn’t have done if I could see them properly and they are so much brighter too.

My eyes are still adjusting to the change. Hopefully when I have my other eye done I’ll start to see things better again. Until then you might have to put up with some funny looking art from me!

  1. Debbie, if that’s your art with poor eye sight, it’s fantast. Just think what you will achieve when both eyes are done. Your art is amazing, great things ahead for you Debbie. You are brilliant, so proud of you. Xx
