Positivity
While I have been away I have been taking the opportunity to catch up with all my family. It’s been 5 years since I have seen some of them and, even then, I saw them in one big group so you don’t really get quality time with them.
This time Matt and I went around everyone individually or as a couple and had a really great catch up which has been a highlight of the trip.
One person I have only just managed to see is my cousin, Sally. I came with my mum and sister and she was there with her 2 children.
We chatted for a while about all sorts of things but one topic was about her health. She has Addisons disease and diabetes and the things she has to go through on a daily basis is traumatic. She is also a single mum.
But despite these things somehow she has such a positive attitude. My sister said to her “you are just so positive about everything“. Her reply was “you have to be because negativity makes you sick”.
I thought about those words for a while and realised how true they are. Negativity hasn’t caused her illness and bad things to happen to her. Just that when she is positive it helps her to focus on what she is grateful for rather than dwelling on the past or the negatives.
We can all sit too often thinking “woe is me”, but what good is that going to do us – especially in situations we can’t change. It just gets us down and depressed and we end up getting sick with worry. Looking at the positives can only give us a boost.
Sally was very inspiring and I left feeling proud that I am related to her.
I have learnt that there are positives in every situation and it’s natural to feel bad when things aren’t going your way. We just need to find positives in the bad because there is always some to be found.
