Judgement
I’d like to think I’m not a judgemental person but I’m sure we all have times when we pass judgment whether it’s intentional or not.
It’s something I try not to do. I have always said treat people as we would like to be treated ourselves and I do think it’s a good concept to follow. It’s easy to make quick assumptions about people based on their appearance, choices, or circumstances without knowing the full facts.
When a crime is committed and a suspect is charged they go to court and after the verdict a judge passes judgment. I’m not a judge, so it’s best to leave judgment where it belongs – in the courtroom.
While it may seem harmless, being judgmental or just a sarcastic comment can be very damaging especially to the person on the receiving end, whether they have heard it or not.
Sarcasm can be a form of judgment. I’m often sarcastic and I am forever saying things in jest and without thinking. I do it to make people laugh and I never intend to be hurtful, but that doesn’t mean my words don’t have an impact.
Instead of speaking without thinking, I want to be more intentional with my words from now on, choosing kindness over quick remarks, and understanding over assumptions. We never truly know what someone is going through, and a little more grace in how we speak can go a long way.
