Habits

I have been told it takes two months of doing something everyday to create a new habit and today it has been two months of me being on this journey.

There are many habits you do everyday without thinking like cleaning your teeth or getting dressed. Drawing is another everyday habit for me.

Whilst I think it’s a good habit, sometimes I draw when talking to people and it can come across as rude. I seem to be able to listen better when I’m drawing. At church I draw about what is being preached, but this can look like I’m not paying attention – quite the opposite is true. If someone drops sugar or salt on the table I draw in it which I know Matt hates. So I suppose you could say drawing is one of my habits.

Habits can be good or bad and this year I’m trying  to change my bad habits and create some good ones, make some positive changes and do them without thinking – just like when you clean your teeth.

These daily drawings and posts haven’t been easy – they are drawings of my emotions and feelings which means I have to take note of the things happening around me. I write comments down that have interested me in the day, then I put those thoughts into a drawing which isn’t always straightforward. I then write down my thoughts which, being dyslexic, is rather difficult for me. Then I post it daily online.

Over the last two months I do feel I have changed a lot. I am paying more attention to the things that are happening around me, I’m joining conversations more, my head feels so much clearer, I’m getting more organised, and slowly thinking healthier. There’s more I could list.

So, whilst drawing and posting everyday is hard it does have its rewards. Does it mean it has become a habit? No, I don’t think so, but it’s helping me and I think it’s definitely worth doing!
