Day 247

Saturday 3rd September 2016

Matt is training at the minute for a cycling race he is doing soon.

He likes going cycling on the road usually but on the odd occasion he does his training at home.

He has one of his bikes set up in our bedroom and it’s wired to a virtual reality simulation on the TV. He puts in a lot of work but he physically doesn’t go anywhere – he watches his progress on the screen.

In this day and age we are in now  computers, TV, video games are there to see things better. It puts you into a virtual reality world.

It’s designed to make you see things that aren’t really there. TV programmes are there to take you out of the world we are living in and for at least an hour takes you to another imaginary world.

We play video games and watch these programmes because for one short minute we are happy, we have forgotten all our worries, we can dream big things and they happen. But really we haven’t actually gone anywhere.

In the past I had found that my life had become a virtual reality. I have imagined I am thinner, healthier, have no worries. I find though that it can mean that I didn’t accept the truth about myself or I just didn’t want to accept it!

There comes a time though when fiction needs to come a reality.  Identifying between the two can be hard. This year I am finding I am doing just that.

I have been sorting out what has been a lie and what has been the truth about things that I have said about myself over the years. It has been an interesting journey but one that has definitely been worth while.

It is sometimes easier to believe the lie than accept the truth but I am working on it.
