Bank it

I have a lot of family in Australia. I have aunties, uncles, cousins, a nephew, my sister and her husband of course. My dad and his wife are in the country a lot too.

I don’t see my dad very much when he is in England as he is usually very busy with work. He also travels a lot so the opportunities to visit are slim. He does come to Australia often and when he does he is more relaxed and has more free time.

The fact I am here means I have seen him so much more recently. But it didn’t stop me being surprised when I got a phone call from him asking if he could take me out for lunch. I was so happy and excited when he picked me up.

We drove up to the highest point so we could see the view. When we got there though it was tipping it down with rain and you were lucky to see the nearest tree let alone the view!

We talked about a lot of subjects, one being me telling him why I was doing a drawing a day to help me mentally and to get more motivated.

He gave me a little bit of advice that I loved. He said in life you have good days and bad days and in those good days, he said, put them in the bank (memory bank), remember them and withdraw them from the bank on your bad days.

He also said that today is priceless but it’s free and it’s what we do with it that counts. He did have a lot more good advice to give but these stood out to me.

I am sitting here now thinking on what he said and I can imagine it would work. I haven’t had a bad day since he said it but I am looking back and smiling from our afternoon together. So I think the time with my Dad I am definitely going to bank. I am sure I will be making a withdrawal of that memory too on many occasions!
