To Compromise
Last night Matt was away so, as I had the room to myself, I thought I would put the fan on.
The reason I don’t have it on when Matt is home is because it’s noisy and he doesn’t like the wind blowing on him. He, however, doesn’t suffer from hot flushes in the night like I do!
So, I had a decision to make; put up with the noise and be cooler or just be hot in the night and have peace. Either way it was a compromise. I opted for having the fan on.
It did make me think how often do we expect perfection and have no room for compromise. I remember when we were looking to buy a house we had a list of requirements we wanted. When we looked we could never fulfil everything on our list.
There always something not quite right. It could have been that the house was perfect but the location was not right or location was good but the house didn’t meet to all our requirements. So there had to be a compromise somewhere.
Maybe that’s the secret to contentment is realising that life isn’t about ticking every box, but about finding peace in the choices we can make.
It’s knowing what matters most in each moment and being willing to bend on the rest. Whether it’s a fan giving me a noisy night or the place we choose to call home.
Compromise doesn’t mean settling. It means choosing with intention and sometimes the imperfect choice ends up being exactly what we needed.
