Something Wonderful
I have a personal trainer and twice a week he comes to our house to train Matt and myself and today he said he has this quote he lives by. He said “always believe that something wonderful is going to happen”.
I instantly thought back to New Years Eve 2023. We had a party at our house to welcome in 2024 but it also doubled as an engagement party. My son, earlier that day, got engaged.
It was looking like 2024 was going to be a good year. People were very excited about it – me included.
The five previous years had been the worst we had ever experienced. We had so much trouble, personal upset and hurdles the size of giants we had to get over. We had no hope that things would change. It totally messed with our minds. Things were spinning out of control and Matt and I could do nothing to save it.
Over those five years it became normal to expect the worst so to ‘expect something wonderful’ was not how we were thinking anymore. But things changed, situations improved and something as wonderful as my son getting engaged happened. I was happy but I was still expecting the worst in my head. Something was bound to go wrong – not with wedding arrangements but with other things in our lives.
In July last year our son got married and it was a wonderful day. The sun was shining, everything went to plan, the speeches left everyone in tears, people had fun and danced the night away and I got a wonderful new daughter in law!
It took me a long time, after all that we had been through, to change my thinking from expecting the worst to believing that something wonderful can happen. But it must have changed at some point because I now do believe it.
Our hope was restored, our situations changed and our bad did change to good. I now sit here believing that the wonderful is going to happen.
